New Recipe

Ok, so I totally got wrapped up in other (Christmas) things yesterday and forgot about the new recipe. So, it has been postponed until Monday, but i assure you there will be one on Monday! I love to cook, so it's killing me to wait that long! The new recipe is going to be an entire meal actually. There are two recipes involved and they are both from Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals tv show. She did both of these recipes as the main course and side dishes, and they looked really good, so I'll give it a go. The main dish is Spaghetti alla Elsa, the side dish is Roasted Sausage and Peppers with Black Pepper Cheesy Bread. I will post the exact recipes and photos of my meal on Monday. Have a good weekend!

New Recipes

So for those of you that don't know, I am completely obsessed with recipes and cookbooks. I got a few cookbooks as wedding gifts that I've been dying to go through, but just haven't had time. So now I've figured out a strategy. At least once a week I'm going to try a new recipe, review it, and post it on here for all of you to enjoy. I'm going to start doing it on Friday, and follow weekly as my days off roll around so there will be no set day of the week, and you'll just have to check back often! I may even post a photo of each dish, we'll see how creative I get. Bon appetit!

I've been tagged!

Amber passed this along to me.

Catching up

Well I really have been neglecting my blog lately! I've just been busy starting a new job at St. Therese Villa, and it's been sucking up my time. As well, I've been really boring lately! I really need to get out and do some photography, and do a little more work to get my budding business off the ground early in the new year. I have been working on my website, and will let you all know when it is up and going.

As for everything else, Chris and I are getting excited to be an uncle and auntie in the near future. I am so excited to have a little baby around, I love babies and have been purchasing cute things for my niece or nephew to be and can't wait to see the clothes on the baby! My sister in law is starting to look really cute, with the preggo belly definetly starting to take shape now, I guess it couldn't hide forever! There's definetly a baby in there!

I guess I must say, I would like to be in the same position, having my first baby. Although, on the other hand, I enjoy it being just Chris and I and being able to do whatever I want. We just bought a new home a year ago, just got married in August and i just started a new job. So next year is looking like a good time for us to have our first, when I qualify for full mat leave and Chris and I have gone on one more vacation where it's just us!

What can I say, that's really all that's new. I've been painting and getting ready for the holidays. I can't believe how fast Christmas has come this year! Anyway, I guess it's time for me to head to bed, considering Chris has to work at 4 am :( oh well, that's life on Mondays.

Something in the water

So I'm not sure if it was a quiet spring, or a long boring summer, but I swear 90% of the people we know are pregnant right now and if they're not pregnant, they just had their little one. I must say it is actually unbelieveable! It started with my brother and sister in law announcing in May and they just snowballed from there! It seems like everytime I go on facebook another friend is announcing they're pregnant. Anyway I just had to post that because it seems like pregnancies come in shifts, either feast or famine! haha! It's exciting though, and I love babies and can't wait to be an auntie!

Book Club

So ever since I finished college, I have been craving knowledge. I used to read all the time, and now, can't find the ambition to read at all. I love books and have a small library of my favorites. I would love to join a book club, or even start one but really don't know that many people who may share this interest. I tried to follow Oprah's book club because she reads some great books, but what can I say, I truly hate Oprah! So that ended that! If anyone has any suggestions of bookclub in Lethbridge, that would be great, I would love to get back into reading, and acually enjoying what I am reading.

Toby Keith!

So I've been slacking on the blogging, but only because I've been stupidly busy and frustrated with things progressing with my new job. Anywho, October 7th Chris and I went to see Toby Keith in concert and had a great time! He was a great enteratiner, albeit he is very American, but we won't go into that. I wasn't there for politics, just a good time, and a good time was had by all, so it was great!

A business to call my own

Well as you may or may not know, I am starting my own photography business in the new year. I have been working hard to put together my portfolio and thought I would post some pictures from it for you all to see. So here they are, not all the photos I take are in black and white, these were all color, but as I learn more photoshop techniques, they seem to change.

Yay! New job starts tomorrow! (NY here I come!)

So I just thought I'd let everyone know that I start my new job at Bigelow Fowler clinic tomorrow. I'm so excited! I've had to push so hard to even get this job, but I hope that shows the administrator how bad I really want the job. It's the perfect nursing job, Monday - Friday 8-5. No weekends, no evenings, no shift work. It's perfect! So with me working full time as well, we are thinking about planning a trip out to New York city to visit with some of Chris's family and see the sights. Hopefully we'll make it out there about April or May, should be fun!

Frustration!

Well I figured since everyone else had a blog, it was time that I started one for my little family. When I was creating the blog, I was worried that I would have nothing to say, but as I got thinking about it, I have a lot to say! Today I'm having issues with my wedding dress maker. Don't get me wrong, Shelly Court is a great woman, she is very pleasant and super nice. On a business level however, I am having some issues. She made my wedding dress, and charged me $800. That's fine, for a custom gown of superior hand craftsmanship that should be a reasonable price. Unfortunately I didn't get superior craftsmanship. When I went to her, I had purchased the fabric, and the pattern. I also purchased the lining, zipper, and boning for her. All she provided was her skill to slightly alter the pattern (went from a closed loop halter at the neck, to a tied halter), thread, and a hook and eye. When I tried it on at my last fitting, she tied it in the back for me, and told me everything looked great. I paid her, and took the dress home. Being a destination bride, I went home and packe my dress so that nothing would happen to it in the 2 weeks until I flew out to Las Vegas. (Yes I was married in Vegas and LOVED it!) When I got to Vegas and the blessed day rolled around, I was so excited to get into my dress. My mom was there to assist, and we began. Keep in mind, the undergarments I was wearing, I also wore to Shelly's when I was having my dress fitted. When the back zipper was done up, it was 4 inches too big. The wraps at the waist were all that held me into my dress on my wedding day. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no way that I lost enough weight to cause that in 2 weeks. Not to mention, the wraps were lined with polyester lining, which against satin is ridiculous. My whole photo session I was so concerned that my lining was showing I didn't even get to enjoy myself. When I returned to Lethbridge, I had 3 weeks until my reception, where I was wearing the dress again. Shelly was in Europe in the meantime, so my mom took the dress in at the back so that it would actually fit and I would be comfortable in it for my reception. When she was doing so, she noticed that the seams between the bodice and the skirt were coming undone and they were sewn so close to the edge of the fabric that it was causing them to fray. My mother had enough to worry about being the mother of the bride without having to take in her daughter's dress. If I had purchased this dress, for this price, in a store I would have taken it in and asked for a refund. I asked Shelly for a 50% refund to compensate, explaining everything that happened and have not received one. I am asking for that amount because of my mother's time, how many materials I provided, the fact that she only did half of a mock up in muslin and the fact that she didn't even mention how large it was on me at my final fitting. I think it is very unfair that I had to deal with this on my wedding day and thought she would understand that, being a new bride herself, but unfortunately not. So I am left with the $800 bill for a dress that I am far from satisfied with. Well that's my rant for today, hopefully I'll be more pleasant tomorrow!
